Serbian Students at "Dositej" School in Zrenjanin, Serbia prepare for "Halyard Mission" Celebration on April 9th, 2010!

MORE GREAT NEWS FROM ZRENJANIN, SERBIA!

Simo Corovic, Sekretar of the "Dositej Obradovic" school in Zrenjanin, Serbia is announcing that the commemoration of the "Halyard Mission Rescue Operation" on April 9th is just the beginning...An essay contest is being initiated related to the theme of "The Rescues of American airmen in Serbia during World War II."  Students from 7 grades will be participating in this contest which will continue until September of 2010. On September 17th, 2010 the three best essays will be announced. Serbian professors of history will be presenting the awards and have agreed to support this initiative! When the awards are presented, representatives of the U.S. Embassay in Belgrade will be present for the ceremony.

After this contest, another will be initiated focusing on King Alexander's wife, Queen Marija Karageorgevich, about whom little is known,  but who was a very positive figure in Serbian history. Corovic feels it's very important for the students to learn about her.

Great interest and enthusiasm has developed for the April 9th event honoring the "Halyard Mission" at the Dositej school in Zrenjanin, and adults are planning to be present for the celebration as well!

For anyone who knows how "hidden" the "Halyard Mission" story has been in Serbia all these years, they will understand just how important and HUGE this wonderful initiative is that is unfolding in Zrenjanin, Serbia!

All the very best to you and your students, Simo! I'm so proud of you!

Sincerely,

Aleksandra Rebic

GREAT NEWS FROM SERBIA!

A young man named Simo Corovic, is announcing that on April 9, 2010, at his school, "Dositej Obradovic" in Zrenjanin, Serbia, the school will be celebrating its 50th anniversary with a very special program, "Operation Air Bridge" dedicated to the rescue of American airmen in WWII Serbia. The special guest speaker will be the USAF Attache in Belgrade, Lt. Col. John Cappello. The program will begin with a moment of silence dedicated to Halyard Mission radioman Arthur Jibilian who recently passed away, and who is being mourned in Serbia as well as here in the United States.

This is indeed an important event, for it is the first time the students will be hearing of this historic episode in Serbian and American history.

Thank you very much to Simo Corovic, Sekretar of the school, for sharing this information. I wish you complete success and many more such celebrations in Serbia as the future brings to light what the past has hidden for too long.

Sincerely,

Aleksandra Rebic
