September 11, 2011 marks 12 years since the passing of our legendary Vojvoda Momcilo Djujic (Feb. 27, 1907 – Sept. 11, 1999). Memory Eternal! If not for him and his soldiers of the Dinara Cetnik Division, many of us would not be here today. Thank you, Vojvoda Momcilo!

(See below for brief bio in both Serbian and English.)

Momcilo R. Djujic rodjen je 27. februara 1907. u Kovacicu (Topolje) kod Knina, Krajina, umro 11. septembra 1999. godine u San Markosu, Kalifornija, Sjedinjene Americke Drzave. Osnovnu skolu i nize razrede gimnazije zavrsio je u Kninu, vise u Sibeniku, bogosloviju u Sremskim Karlovcima. Vladika dalmatinski G. Irinej (Djordjevic) dodelio mu je 1933. parohiju u Strmici, na Tromedji Dalmacije, Bosne i Like. U srpskom narodnom ustanku protiv ustaske Nezavisne Drzave Hrvatske, 27.

Momcilo R. Djujic was born February 27, 1907 in the village of Kovacic (Topolje) near Knin, Serbian Krajina. He died on September 11, 1999 in San Marcos, California, USA. He finished his early education in Knin, went on to higher education in Sibenik and finished seminary in Sremski Karlovci. In 1933 Bishop Irinej (Djordjevic) of Dalmatia assigned him to the parish in Strmica on the Tromedja border region of Dalmatia, Bosnia and Lika. On July 27, 1941 he was one of the leaders of the Serbian people’s uprising against the Ustashe of the Nazi created Independent State of Croatia. Due to his many abilities and personal charisma, he was elected leader of the Dinara Chetnik Division on October 16, 1941 in the village of Crni Potoci. His leadership was quickly recognized by General Dragoljub Draza Mihailovic, then defense minister of the Yugoslav Royal Government. Therefore, on the recommendation of the oldest living Chetnik Vojvoda (Duke), Ilija Trifunovic–Bircanin, Djujic received the title of Vojvoda from Mihailovic. In 1941 Djujic took off his priestly robes and never again wore them, but he remained, until his death, a priest of the Serbian Orthodox Church. When Vojvoda Momcilo and his fighters left Krajina (Tromedja) undefeated in December 1944, the Dinara Chetnik Division entered into the Serbian diaspora and legend.
