HRH CROWN PRINCE ALEXANDER EXPRESSES GRATITUDE TO HIS HOLINESS PATRIARCH IRINEJ OF SERBIA AND THE HOLY SYNOD REGARDING THEIR SUPPORT FOR THE TRANSFER OF THE SERBIAN ROYAL FAMILY BURIED ABROAD BACK TO SERBIA

Belgrade, 29 February 2012 – HRH Crown Prince Alexander II expressed his gratitude to His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia and the Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church, for their support in his initiative that all members of Karadjordjevic Royal Family who were buried abroad should be transferred to the homeland and buried in the Crypt of St. George Church in Oplenac.

“This decision encourages me to hope that the huge historic injustice will finally be corrected”, stated the Crown Prince in his letter. HRH Crown Prince Alexander II informed H. E. Mr. Boris Tadic, President of Serbia, and H. E. Dr. Mirko Cvetkovic, the Prime Minister, about the support of the Serbian Orthodox Church, and asked again that the Serbian authorities take part in the organisation of the transfer of the remains of HM Queen Maria, HM King Peter II, HM Queen Alexandra, HRH Prince Andrej, HRH Prince Paul, HRH Princess Olga and HRH Prince Nikola to Serbia with full state honours.
